NO classes will be held on Sunday, Aug 9 due to the Crystal Challenge Figure Skating Competition.

Classes are term-based and payable in full at time of enrolment.

What’s Included

  • 30-minute group lesson
  • During lesson times, rink access is reserved for skate school students only.
  • Class Size: 10 students. (Tots Classes: 8 Students)
  • Skate and helmet hire (knee pads and wrist guards available on request)
  • Public skate session on the day of your lesson
  • Five (5) public skate passes to use for additional sessions throughout the term. Please note: these passes are not included with half-price supplementary classes (Off-Ice, Edges, Ice Dance).

Before You Enrol

  • We recommend experiencing ice skating prior to enrolling in a full-term program, as refunds are not available for a change of mind.
  • Participants should be able to stand and balance on the ice in skates without support.
  • Children must be comfortable participating without a parent/guardian and able to follow instruction within a structured group environment.

  • If you’re unfamiliar with a skill name, you can search the skill name along with “ice skating” online to view video demonstrations.

Important

For first-time enrolments into a higher-level class (above Tots1, Youth 1+2, or Adult 1+2), your skill level MUST be recorded in your account profile before our system will allow you to enrol. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Create an Account (if you haven’t already)
  • Email us at Skate School with your skill level (the class level you should enrol in). We’ll update your records so you can enrol in the correct class level.

Aussie Skate Registration – Required

O’Brien Icehouse is a member rink of Ice Skating Australia and teaches their accredited Learn-to-Skate curriculum, Aussie Skate™. Ice Skating Australia (ISA) is the governing body for ice skating in Australia and is recognised by the International Skating Union (ISU), ISA plays a crucial role in promoting the sport and supporting high-performance athletes at both national and internation levels.

All students must register with Aussie Skate. Registration provides:

  • Insurance coverage during lessons, competitions, and sanctioned Aussie Skate events
  • Access to the Aussie Skate app for progress tracking, tips, and program information

Aussie Skate Badges

  • Official Aussie Skate badges are awarded to students when passing their level.
  • Effective Term 1 2027: Students must be a registered member of Aussie Skate to receive badges.

SKATE SCHOOL FAQs

Due to the high demand for our classes, we require full upfront payment before the start of each term.

Yes, we are registered. Our Provider Code is 3167101.

If You Have a Get Active Kids Voucher:

STEP 1 – Set Up Your Account

  • If you do not already have an account, create one in your name (parent/guardian).

  • Add your child by clicking “Friends & Family” in your account. This links the accounts correctly as Parent/Child.

STEP 2 – Email Your Voucher

Please include:

  • A copy of your voucher
  • Your child’s full name
  • The class you wish to enrol in (Day, Level, Time).

STEP 3 – Payment of Any Gap
Skate School will set up the enrolment and contact you to process payment for any balance owing (where class fees exceed the voucher value).

If You Have Already Enrolled & Paid in Full:

  • Email Skate School and request a Tax Invoice.
  • Submit your refund claim directly through the Get Active Kids website (please refer to their website for instructions).

Yes, we supply you with skates if you do not have your own. We also have helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards if you wish to wear them. They are not mandatory*.

* Helmets are compulsory for Tots 1, Tots 2, Tots 3, Youth 1+2, and Adult 1+2 classes.

 

We do not offer make up classes.

However, each enrolment in a CORE* class includes FIVE (5) free Public Session passes. These passes are loaded onto your access card. You are welcome to use these passes in lieu of the class you have missed to come and practice. Passes expire at the end of each term.

* CORE Aussie Skate Classes:  Tots 1-3 and Levels 1+2 to Freeskate 4 (including the Rising Stars Freeskate program).

All students receive a set of Public Session passes.  These passes are loaded onto your access card and can be used for any Public Session during the term.  Please see the front desk team to redeem these passes.  Passes expire at the end of each term.

No.  We do not refund if you change your mind and don’t wish to continue.

Refunds are only considered where a medical condition prevents continued participation, with supporting medical or hospital documentation required. All refund requests are reviewed by management and assessed in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

Yes, you are more than welcome to go for a skate before and/or after your Skate School lesson if there is a session available.

Wednesday Students:  Public Session 9:00am – 3:45pm.  From 4:00pm-6:00pm, we allocate a practice area, and students are welcome to practice in the designated area.

Sunday Students:  The Public Session starts at 9am on Bradbury Rink.  Since Skate School is on Henke Rink, students are welcome to practice on Bradbury Rink from 9am.

FAMILY DISCOUNT:

If there are 3 or more in a family enrolling for Skate School, a 10% discount will be applied from the 3rd student onwards. This discount is only available for redemption in venue.

MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT:

Active members enrolling themselves into Skate School receive a discount: Silver 10%, Gold 15%, Gold Freestyle 15% off their term enrollment.

Only one discount can be redeemed.

Discounts will not be applied if you enrol online. To redeem, you must enrol in the venue or contact Skate School.

You will need to go to Ticketing for them to issue you a replacement card at a fee of $10.

If you are a beginner skater, our Skate School Group Lessons are a great place to start. However, in the instance you are an advanced skater looking for one-on-one tuition, we have put some information below.

Q: I would like private skating lessons.  What are my options?

A: Please go to the Figure Skating Coach Profiles link on our website:  Private Coaches.  It includes coaches’ names, profiles, and contact information. Skaters interested in booking lessons with these coaches must contact them directly as each coach organises their own lesson schedules. Please note: Not all coaches have availability. All lesson bookings/payments are made directly between the Student & Coach (coaching fees vary.) Private Lesson fees do not include admission to Public Sessions, Freestyle Sessions, or Skate Hire.

Q: What are Freestyle Sessions?

A: Freestyle Sessions are designated Figure Skating Training Sessions. For more information check out our Freestyle Sessions Page
