Coach Matt is a Canadian / Australian IIHF level 2 certified hockey coach. Matt, who spent most of his life in Canada, started playing hockey at the age of 3, through minor hockey in Ottawa until he was drafted by the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. Matt went on to play Canadian Interuniversity Sport for the Concordia Stingers while studying at University. Following this Matt started his professional career, playing pro hockey in the USA, Germany, and the Netherlands. Spending the last 13 AIHL seasons with Melbourne Ice & Mustangs, Matt’s achievements as a player include: 5 Goodall Cup Championships, 2 Australian National Senior Team IIHF World Championships, 3 AIHL All Star Game appearances and ranks 7th All-Time in career AIHL goals, assists and points. Matt also coached the Melbourne Ice Woman alongside Tom Powell taking them to the McKowen Trophy in 2015-16. As Director of the Icehouse Hockey Academy and with a passion for grass roots hockey, Matt enjoys developing hockey players from beginners through to the elite.
