Coach Matt brings a unique blend of Canadian hockey tradition and Australian passion to the ice. An IIHF Level 2 certified coach, Matt began skating at just three years old in Ottawa, Canada. His dedication to the game led him through the Canadian minor hockey system, eventually being drafted by the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He continued his career at Concordia University, competing for the Stingers while completing his studies, before embarking on a professional journey that took him across the USA, Germany, and the Netherlands.

In Australia, Matt has established himself as a standout in the Australian Ice Hockey League, with 13 seasons representing the Melbourne Ice and Melbourne Mustangs. His accomplishments include 5 Goodall Cup Championships, two appearances with Australia’s National Senior Team at the IIHF World Championships, three AIHL All-Star selections, and a place among the league’s all-time point leaders.

As a coach, Matt has demonstrated the same level of excellence, leading the Melbourne Ice Women to a McKowen Trophy title in the 2015-16 season. Serving as Director of the Icehouse Hockey Academy, his coaching philosophy is to develop confident, skilled, and respectful athletes in a fun and challenging environment. Matt was recently appointed assistant coach for 2026 Australia’s Men’s National Senior Team, contributing his expertise to the national program. Matt focuses on building strong fundamentals, teamwork, and a love for the game while helping each player grow on and off the ice.
